Easter is a time of great celebrations at Harvey’s Point. It is the beginning of our new season and there is always a great buzz around the hotel. Nature is bursting with life and it inspires us to blend a range of outdoor and indoor activities for our guests. We have planned a lovely programme that is packed with variety and surprises and we welcome everyone to join in the fun. It is our wish that each and every guest feels at home and yet pampered in the lap of luxury.
Following the phenomenal success of our recent Midweek Activity Breaks, we will continue with our weekly wine tasting and cookery demonstrations throughout the season. At Easter, the theme will of course be chocolate and more chocolate, presented with creativity and flair by Kitchen Manager Christopher and Chef Colin. The wine tasting event on Easter Monday will be hosted by Orhan, our Restaurant Manager and experienced Sommelier. Judging by the guests giggling after our recent wine tastings, Orhan doesn’t hold back on the quantities of wine but above all, he makes the event both educational and fun.
To start the celebrations, Marc and I will be welcoming guests to our wee secret bar over at the stables, aptly named by one of our residents at Christmas as ‘the best bar in Ireland’ because there is no till! We will also host a guided walk along the shores of Lough Eske. For the young and not so young, we invite all our guests to take part in the annual Harvey’s Point Egg Rolling Competition. Last year, there were so many laughs at the serious and not so serious attempts to roll the egg without throwing it. Nevertheless, competition was fierce, cheating was rampant and it was so much fun.
A talk on Spring gardening tips will be held by Pat, our head gardener and expert horticulturalist, followed by a walkabout around the grounds. Watch out for Harvey, our grumpy goose if you are crossing ‘his’ territory!
For those who enjoy a flutter, entries are taken on Bank Holiday Monday for our Grand National Sweepstake and then we will watch it in Harvey’s Bar. Roaring, shouting and even cursing are allowed as guests’ hope to see their chosen horse cross the finish line first. My one is still running since last year!
Our Easter Treasure Hunt, organized by Ryan, is held on the grounds of the hotel and it’s a great way to meet other guests in search of clues and the great prize. (It’s a surprise – and no, its not ‘another’ Easter Egg) !
Colm Kelly, our charming Barman will host a table quiz which is always a great event. Rumour has it that he can be ‘most helpful’ with the answers! Colm is also a man of great stories, some true, some a bit far fetched but all of them very entertaining. He also has a wealth of local knowledge that he is proud to share with guests.
So, we hope you might join us for these special celebrations and on behalf of the Gysling Family & Team, may I wish you and yours a very Happy Easter.
I will conclude with one of my favourite Easter quotes.
“I think of the garden after the rain,
And hope to my heart comes singing,
At morn the cherry-blooms will be white,
And the Easter bells be ringing!”
~Edna Dean Proctor, “Easter Bells”
