“real food and hospitality with real heart”
The following day, we arrived at the Bord Bia Headquarters in great spirits. It was enjoyable to chat with industry colleagues as we shared stories of the trials and tribulations of life in the hospitality trade. In her opening speech, Georgina noted that in her travels around the island of Ireland, she and her assessors were not in pursuit of perfection but that they were looking for “real food and hospitality with real heart”. I glanced hopefully at Marc. We both know that Harvey’s Point is not perfect but it has a big, big heart. The awards ceremony began. Georgina spoke beautifully about each award category and gradually the large pile of awards was reduced to just one. By this stage, I was feeling very nervous but when I looked at Marc, he just smiled. For a brief moment, the past twenty seven years flashed before me and I thought to myself, ‘how lucky I am to be part of the Harvey’s Point story, to be sitting next to a man who, together with Jody his brother, have invited me to travel with them on this exciting journey’.
The Three Musketeers
When Georgina announced Harvey’s Point as ‘Hotel of the Year’, there was a loud cheer from the guests and we rose from our seats to be presented with the award. It was one of the happiest moments of my hotel life. Of course, I wanted to jump up and down with joy and hug Marc but we remained graciously reserved until later in the car, driving home, we couldn’t stop laughing and reliving the moment. I rang Jody to tell him the great news and I could tell that he was delighted and extremely proud. It is Jody’s vision, creativity and drive that has made Harvey’s Point evolve organically into such a special place. We call ourselves ‘The Three Musketeers’ as we have stuck together through the highs and lows of hotel life. Our roles and lives intertwine to form a unique structure that is connected by a shared love for Harvey’s Point and a passion to succeed.
Team Harvey’s Point share that love and that passion and while Georgina spoke about the hotel’s “stunning location, luxurious accommodation and fine food”, she added that “the real USP (unique selling point) of the hotel is its people”. This was the moment that I thought about the dedication and loyalty of each member of the Harvey’s Point family and how everyone goes the extra mile with a smile to ensure that every guest has an exceptional experience. This award belongs to them. They have earned it.
